Swinton Estate is committed to protecting the environment, ensuring clean air, fresh water and unspoiled nature can be enjoyed for generations to come. Across more than 7,000 acres of moorland and 1,700 acres of woodland, our natural capital provides valuable solutions to the climate crisis, while our conservation work helps protect habitats and support some of our rarest species.
For over 20 years, we have invested in both innovative technology and nature-based solutions to reduce emissions and waste, enhance biodiversity, and sequester carbon. Initiatives include the installation of a carbon-neutral biomass boiler in 2006, planting more than 40,000 trees, restoring peatland across the moors, and creating wildflower meadows.
While the Estate is already carbon neutral, our journey continues. Our ambition is to reduce our environmental footprint by a further 30% by 2040 through minimising operational emissions and investing in biodiversity and carbon sequestration. These projects are supported by Swinton Nourish, our partnership platform, which also delivers environmental education through the Climate Action Academy and promotes back-to-nature wellbeing for our partners.
