Start the walk at the Swinton Bivouac Café. If you are on the main patio, take the steps down the side of the building and from there head to the stile in the fence. Take the path down the hill heading towards the bottom of the valley with the wall on your left, this is where it can be very boggy. When you get to the bottom of the hill, turn left and go through the gate, following a track with a conifer plantation on your right. Continue until you reach a gate with a stile on the left, cross over this and head to the road.
At the road turn left and walk towards the barn on the right hand side of the road. 1just beyond the barn is a gate, go through this. Cross over a bridge and follow the track that runs along the bottom of the valley, with the stream Sole Beck on your left. After you have gone through a gate the track will cross a small field and here you need to head up the hill in the far right hand corner. Here you will see the ruins of Lobley Hall. You need to bear left here with Lobley Hall on your right – do not go into the field.
As you continue from here the path becomes very uneven and steep in places. It winds through bracken and gorse and can be hard to follow. You will drop lower towards the stream, and the path then takes a sharp left hand turn down a steep bank and then bends right – this is where you will find yourself alongside the stream. Follow the stream for a short section, until you have to cross a smaller rocky stream. There is a fence directly ahead of you that you have to climb up to. Climb over the fence and follow the track away from the stream, heading up the hill with trees either side of you. At the top of the slope pass through a gateway in a stone wall into a rough meadow. From here head directly across the field towards a hand gate in the hedge on the far side. Once you have gone through the hand gate you will come into a grass field, from there head across the field going diagonally left and downhill towards the stile in the hedge. Cross the stile onto the road. Turn right and walk up the road until you reach Swinton Country Club.
