Turn left out of the Country Club’s car park. Stay on this road, keeping the Parkland wall on the left. At the road fork, continue straight (bearing right) down the hill and over the small ford where bikes can go over a small bridge. Keep left going up the hill. Follow the road left around a tight left bend. Take the first right turn, signposted towards Swinton Bivouac, and continue straight up, turning at the top of the road where the signpost is to Swinton Bivouac. For the return journey you have the option of retracing your journey or returning to Swinton Country Club via Ilton and Warthermaske – this route does take you up a VERY steep hill. At the end of Knowle Lane take the right leading to Ilton. Head down the hill where the road goes over a stream, which becomes a ford in very heavy rain – there is a bridge to use if the ford is high. The road goes up steeply, taking you into the small village of Ilton. Follow the road to the left. Continue straight, ignore the right hand turn. This road gently drops back down the hill again, taking you through the hamlet of Warthermaske. Ignore the left hand turn and continue, the parkland walls will be on your left. When the castle entrance is on your left, continue up the hill and Swinton Country Club’s entrance will be on your left.
