Explore the route at Druid’s Temple
The Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian’s Wall was a treasured feature in an iconic landscape. Sadly, it was felled in an act of vandalism in 2023.
In response, Lucy Pittaway, the highly successful Yorkshire artist, created her “Sycamore Gap” artwork to commemorate the tree.
For every print purchased she also pledged to plant a tree, and she chose the Druid’s Plantation as the location for her sycamore woodland.
The sycamores that have been planted have been selected for their variety and brilliance of colour, with a spectacular autumnal display of yellows, pinks and purples. As each new tree takes root, the Lucy Pittaway Sycamore Gap Trail stands as a tribute to the spirit of the lost tree, and to the resilience and renewal of nature.
